When competing against out of the box Intranet products we often get asked if features of these products are in SharePoint. With WSS 3.0 and MOSS 2007 there were 40 site templates that could be used to provide some of these features, out of the box. SharePoint 2010 has a way of having quite a few niffy features, I am not sure if 2007 had this feature but SharePoint 2010 definitely sold it to me without me realising. I created an alert in SharePoint to alert me when any new articles appeared on the discussion board. When the alert came through a handy little icon at the top left of the email read "Connect to Discussion Board" Doing this created a folder in Outlook where all messages from the discussion board were held. At the moment the discussion board isn't used that much but I can see this being a really useful feature as it means I can post replies straight from Outlook, even offline using the ribbon for discussion boards....
