SharePoint 2010 has a way of having quite a few niffy features, I am not sure if 2007 had this feature but SharePoint 2010 definitely sold it to me without me realising. I created an alert in SharePoint to alert me when any new articles appeared on the discussion board. When the alert came through a handy little icon at the top left of the email read "Connect to Discussion Board" Doing this created a folder in Outlook where all messages from the discussion board were held. At the moment the discussion board isn't used that much but I can see this being a really useful feature as it means I can post replies straight from Outlook, even offline using the ribbon for discussion boards....
