Wireframing for SharePoint Intranets

Tuesday, July 7, 2015

I have been doing a bit of Wireframing recently, it has been a while since the last time I wireframed an Intranet. I would recommend that anyone creating an Intranet or application uses wireframes to scope out the functionality of the project before the design stage starts. It is even more important if you are doing this for a client as it forms an important sign off gate and defines what you are going to build. One of the reasons that I like to get wireframes signed off before the design stage starts in earnest, is that it stops discussions around functionality taking place through many iterations of designs. The design phase should be about the brand and look and feel and not about how the Intranet is going to work.

The tool I would recommend for wireframing is Balsamiq, I have used the online version for sharing and gathering feedback for clients but the client version is just a little bit easier to use. www.balsamiq.com
